Hall of Famer Named Terps Radio Analyst

August 30th, 2018

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland all-time leading rusher and nine-year NFL veteran LaMont Jordan has been named the new color analyst for the Maryland Sports Radio Network football broadcasts, it was announced today.

Jordan replaces Tim Strachan, who has decided to step down to enjoy more time with his family after 22 exciting years spending fall Saturdays with the Terps.

Jordan, who served as a part-time analyst during the 2017 football season, will join the legendary “Voice of the Terps” Johnny Holliday, to call all Maryland football games in 2018. Holliday, a 2009 inductee to the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame, is entering his 40th season calling Terrapin football and men’s basketball games.

“It has been an absolute honor and joy to sit alongside Tim Strachan for the last 22 years,” said Holliday. “Tim’s not only a good broadcaster, but also a great person and a family friend. He’ll be missed in the booth, but I know Tim’s excited about spending more time with his family.

“I greatly enjoyed having LaMont on the call for several games last season and am looking forward to him bringing his unique insight to our broadcast booth,” Holliday continued. “I called all of LaMont’s games while he was a player and he’s truly an all-time great Terp. I know he’ll be just as good in the booth as he was on the field.”

Jordan, a newly announced member of the Maryland Athletics 2018 Hall of Fame class, ranks first all-time in Terrapin football history in career rushing yards (4,147), single-season rushing yards (1,632 in 1999), single game rushing yards (306 vs. Virginia, 1999), single-season rushing touchdowns (16 in 1999) and career rushing attempts (807).

Donning a Terps uniform from 1997-2000, Jordan totaled 18 career 100-yard rushing games, the most in school history, and scored 17 touchdowns in 1999, the most in a single season in Maryland history. He was named First Team All-ACC and a Second Team All-American in 1999.

“I’m beyond excited to take on this role and want to thank Maryland Athletics and Maryland Sports Properties for this opportunity,” said Jordan. “I had a great experience working with Johnny and Tim last year and know that I have big shoes to fill.

“The University of Maryland has always held a special place in my heart and to be back on campus and working directly with the program is a dream come true,” Jordan continued. “I hope that I can bring a unique perspective to the listening audience and I’m excited for the 2018 season to get underway!”

Strachan began his tenure with the Terps in 1996. He served as a student assistant coach (offense/quarterbacks) and as the radio sideline color analyst.

“I have been blessed to be a part of the Terps football family for 22 years,” said Strachan. “I want to thank everyone that made this opportunity possible–especially Johnny Holliday, the best there is in radio and a great friend and mentor, as well as the crew that made us sound so great in Brett Bessell (Statistician), Steve Rear (Spotter), and Tom Marchitto (Engineer) for their professionalism and friendship. I also want to thank the Maryland fans and listeners for their support and enthusiasm for Maryland football.

“There is so much I’m going to miss, from game day to the players and coaches to interacting with the Maryland faithful; but there is so much more I will now be able to do with my wife, Leslie, and daughters, Sophie and Olivia, especially as we eagerly await the arrival of our new addition to the family in early 2019.  I may not be a part of the radio, but I will always be there in spirit and listening and rooting for the success of this program.  With my sincerest thanks to you all–Go Terps!”

All Maryland football games during the 2018 season will be broadcast live on 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore and The Team 980 in Washington, D.C.

The Terps open the 2018 season against Texas on September 1 at FedExField. The game is set to kick at noon.
