The M Club is a way for former Terrapin athletic letter winners to continue their involvement in Maryland Athletics long after their eligibility has expired. As members of the M Club, you have the opportunity to serve as an ambassador for Maryland Athletics.
M Club membership is not solely limited to former student athletes. Supporters of UMCP’s athletic programs also have the opportunity to take advantage of the resources provided through M Club membership and give back to the institution. Provided below are the descriptions of each type of M Club membership and eligibility requirements.
Those eligible for regular membership in the M Club shall consist of those UMCP students awarded the varsity “M” for participation in one or more sports now, or previously, officially recognized by the UMCP’s Athletic Council, or which shall be so recognized at any future time. The names of these eligible athletes shall be obtained from the respective coaches.
The coaches, staff members, and associates of recognized intercollegiate sports may be elected to honorary membership after tenure of at least (10) years upon a majority vote of the Board of Trustees (Board). They shall be granted Associate membership and not be entitled to vote nor hold elective office in the M Club.
Honorary members may be elected by majority of the Board for their exceptional leadership and dedication to UMCP and its athletic program. No more than four (4) honorary members may be elected in any one (1) fiscal year. Honorary members shall not be entitled to vote at Board meetings but shall be permitted to chair and/or serve on committees with voting privileges.
Any supporter of the UMCP’s athletic program and objectives and purposes of the M Club or former student-athlete who participated in a sport and was not awarded a varsity letter, may be nominated and admitted to associate membership by a vote of a majority of the Board. Associate members shall not be entitled to vote at Board meetings nor hold elected office but shall be permitted to chair and/or serve on committees with voting privileges.
